Simple YAM (Chena) Thoran




Ingredients:

1 ½ cup Yam/Chenna- chopped( you can cut either lengthwise or square ( cube) shape)
1-cup onions chopped( thinly)
1-cup coconut grated
3-4 green chilies
One pinch Jeera (Jeerakam)
A small piece of garlic
¼ tsp Turmeric powder
2 tbsp Oil
½ tsp Mustard seeds
A pinch of garam masala (optional)
1-2 dry chilli
Curry leaves –As required
Method:
In a pan, put the oil and add mustard seeds, when they pop add the dry chilies, & curry leaves. Add the chopped onions, Sauté till the onions turns transparent. Then add the mixture of coconut + green chilly + geera + garlic +turmeric powder (slightly grind or crush) and sauté for a bit and finally Add the chenna/yam, sauté and mix well. Cover with a lid & Cook in a very law flame. (Don’t put water for cooking the yam there is enough water in the yam to cook itself.
