Kumbil Ada/Vayana leaf/Appam


1) Fried rice powder – 1 cup
2) Jaggery – 1 cup (powdered or melted)
3) Small Banana – 4 or jack fruit Jam – 1 cup( because of the non-availability I used Chakka Halwa)
4) Cardamom powder – 1 tsp
5) Grated coconut – 1 cup
6) Ghee – 1 table sp
7) Vayana leaf – As required.


Wash the Vayana leaves thoroughly to remove any dust and wipe with a clean cotton cloth. Roll the leaves like a cone and keep aside. Now mix the ingredients 1 and 2 without forming any lumps. Then add smashed banana or jack fruit jam (chakkavaratty) and grated coconut to this mixture along with cardamom powder and mix well using your hands. If it is not mixed well, use a blender.

Now Fill the leaf cones with the dough, repeat the same with all leaves and steam cook for about 15 -20 minutes.
