Tomato Rasam /Takkali Rasam


How to make Thakkali Rasam

Ingredients

1) Tomato (Medium Size) – 4 (Chopped)
2) Ginger – ½” piece ( Crushed)
3) Garlic pods- 5 nos. ( Crushed)
4) Black pepper corns – 15 nos. ( Crushed)
5) Chilly Powder – ¾ table spoon ( I used kashmiri chilly powder)
6) Coriander powder – ¾ Table spoon
7) Turmeric Powder – ½ teaspoon
8) Fenugreek (Uluva) Powder – ¼ teaspoon
9) Cumin Seeds (Jeera) powder – ¼ teaspoon
10) Asafetida- 3 pinch
11) Black pepper powder – ¼ teaspoon
12) Tamarind extract– (small lime size. Or As required)
13) Water – 3 cups.( As required)
14) Curry leaves- a few
15) Coriander leaves – a few
16) Mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon

Method

Dissolve the tamarind in ½ cup of water and extract the pulp and keep aside.

Take a pan heat oil, then sputter mustard seeds, then add curry leaves, crushed garlic, crushed ginger & crushed black pepper corns then sauté for few seconds then add chopped tomato’s until it turns mashy. Then add curry leaves, chilly powder, coriander powder, fenugreek powder and cumin powder then sauté again few seconds. Then add tamarind extract, along with 3 cups of water and add salt to taste. Keep it on low flame for 7-8 mins and bring it to a boil. Then add coriander leaves. Do a taste test at this time. Finally add asafetida & pepper powder. Your delicious Rasam is ready to serve.
